Town Tidy Day, sponsored by Simplyhealth took place on Thursday 16th April 2015, in Andover Town Centre with other town centre businesses joining in on the day including Andover Framing, David Mellor Family Jewellers, Valley Leisure and Oaktree Business Management.
The figurehead for the yearly exercise, was Manuela Wahnon, well known locally for her passion for litter picking in Andover Town centre, she said, ““I would like to thank Test Valley Environmental Services and the Clean Team for providing the equipment and support for this event, as well as all of the volunteers who enabled us to make such an impact. Finally, I need to thank Councillor Graham Stallard, the Environmental Portfolio Holder for arranging a special collection of a large pile of rubbish we discovered.”
The Tidy Day, encompassed a range of events involving local businesses and the local community including a Litter Pick and River Cleanse, as well as Street Furniture painting and improvements to key areas of concern.
Town Centre Manager, Chris Gregory, said: “Part of the work of the Town Centre Partnership is to improve the appearance and attractiveness of the town and what better way than to take direct action to improve some very visible issues. We were overjoyed with the turnout of businesses, residents and organisations which meant that we collected over 40 refuse sacks from difficult to reach areas or those within private ownership.”
Mark Hamson, spokesperson for Simplyhealth commented: “We were pleased to sponsor Town Tidy Day. The event was a great way to bring together businesses that are local to Andover and members of the community for the benefit of the town.”
