Andover's New Skate Park Launches in Time for Half Term

Andover’s long awaited new skatepark opened on Friday and has been filled with skateboarders, skaters and stunt cyclicts ever since.

Anyone passing the new area is treated to high flying tricks and spins, courtesy of those using it. Sarah Jane Partner, Community Development Worker at Test Valley Borough Council, who has been a part of the implementation of the new skatepark from beginning to end, said, “I do hope all of you enjoy this new facility and I hope that this way of working with you has been of benefit. I have really appreciated all of your support and positive outlook over the last year and I am so pleased to have been able to be involved with you all on this project.

Please look after the site, this was built for you and the facility has been a long time coming for you guys to have somewhere to go skate, BMX and scoot.”

There has been some controversy since the opening on Friday afternoon, with a rift forming between Skaters, Cyclists and those wanting to use the new facility with their scooters, especially young children trying to use the park.

One of the cyclists told Andover & Villages, “Small kids are coming down wanting to use the skate park with their scooters, but when we are using it, we are going at great speed and if a 5/6 year old goes past as we are accelerating to complete a jump, not only will we get hurt, but the child will too. We just want parents to make sure their children are supervised down there or someone is going to get hurt.”

The official opening will be on the 15thNovember 2014 Maverick will be of course presenting a massive skate jam this will run 12noon – 4pm, with a break around 2pm for an official opening by the Mayor.
