Andover News - Father's 4 Justice Founder Charged by Police

Matt O’Connor, founder of ‘Fathers 4 Justice’, was arrested outside his home in Stockbridge High Street at 8am yesterday morning (4th Sept 2014).

A further police presence was felt in Stockbridge, both yesterday afternoon and today (5th Sept 2014), with neighbours stating that officers were going door-to-door asking for information on the incident.

A spokesman for Hampshire Police said, ”At 8am on Thursday, September 4, officers attended Stockbridge High Street, where a 47-year-old man was arrested. Matt O’Connor of Stockbridge, has been charged with using threatening or abusive words and behaviour, contrary to Section 5 of the Public Order Act. He has been bailed to appear before magistrates in Basingstoke on September 23.”

Matt O’Connor has written an open letter stating, “For the last 6 months, my family has been subject to a frightening and traumatic campaign of what appears to be political intimidation by right-wing extremists linked to the Romsey Conservative Party and the MP for Romsey and Southampton North, Caroline Nokes. This campaign has been violent, threatening and targeted our home, our 8-yr-old son, his school, our business and every aspect of our lives.”

Mr O’Connor has a close connection with Hampshire County Councillor Tony Hooke who represents the Andover South division, specifically in connection with organising meetings and other matters to hold the Hampshire Constabulary to account. Both have previously been arrested while claiming a political motivation for the actions of the Police.
