On Sunday 17 August a group of over 20 people turned up to show their support for humanitarian aid in Gaza. The group raised money in support of Save The Children Gaza appeal by walking 10k, the estimated width of the Gaza Strip. Each participant donated at least £10 to the cause and many more, who couldn’t attend sponsored the walkers on-line through www.justgiving.com/stcgaza.
The route led from Andover town centre to the Clatfords and back. Everyone made it back safely and was rewarded with a Palestinian meal of maqluba. The ingredients were kindly donated by Charcoal Grill and the venue provided by The Bridge.
The organisers would like to thank everyone who attended and sponsored us on-line.
A long-term ceasefire has been agreed between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip. The truce, ending seven weeks of fighting that has left more than 2,200 people – mostly Palestinians – dead, was brokered by Egypt and began at 16:00 GMT on Tuesday evening (27th Aug 2014).
Israel is to ease its blockade of Gaza to allow in aid and building materials, Israeli officials said.
The money raised from the sponsored walk will go to help the people of Gaza.
