From today, 1st August 2016 the Minor Injuries Unit at Andover War Memorial hospital will be opening seven days a a week with extended hours from 8.30am to 7.30pm.
In March 2016, Andover & Villages reported a cut from the 91 hours opening a week due to ‘staff shortages’.
The hours put in place today will bring the total open hours to 77 per week.
A notice on the website for the MIU states :
The Minor Injuries Unit at Andover Hospital is presently available 8.30am to 7.30pm, seven days a week.
Patients are asked to arrive before 7pm if possible, to allow for all patients waiting to be seen by 7.30pm.
Patients needing urgent treatment for minor injuries after 7.30pm and before 8.30am should contact NHS 111 for advice.
HHFT chief executive, Mary Edwards, said, “I am pleased we are able to safely extend the service into the evenings and weekends.
“Our Minor Injuries Unit is a key part of our emergency care service and is provided by highly trained professionals.
“I’d like to apologise to the community of Andover for any inconvenience caused while we were ensuring the safety of the service.”
