On Friday 17th October Andover and District Mencap launched its new IT suite. Opened by The Mayor of Test Valley Cllr Iris Anderson the new facility was warmly welcomed by those in attendance.

The room was developed due to the endeavours of a daredevil group of Fundraisers who raised over £8000 through a sponsored Zip Wire event, and supported by the Bailey Thomas Foundation, The Downlands Educational Trust and Test Valley Borough Council.

The room was developed with people with a Learning disability at its heart. Along with 10 pcs we have a touch screen smart board and projector, trackball mouse’s and large keyboards to ensure all our members are able to access the facility.

The room along with the Wellington Centre Is open to the community of Andover and we hope that this added attraction will continue to ensure that we are a community hub for the people of Andover. Chris Dixon, Chief Executive commented

The room is a remarkable achievement for those that have supported the project. Their commitment in helping us raise the money for the project has enabled us to develop the room to higher specification than we had planned for. Our members love the room and will now be able to engage with the World Wide Web in a way that many of us take for granted. I would like to thank everyone that got involved. Without their support we would not have been able to achieve this goal so quickly

For anyone interested in using the room please contact Angela Fythe at the Wellington Centre on 01264 321840
