Andover Lip Readers raised £170 on Saturday 6th September, during their cake and coffee morning, which was held at The St John the Baptist Church Hall in Alexandra Road, Andover.
Andover Lip Readers are raising money to fund lip reading courses through the year, which are designed to help those that are losing their hearing, resulting in giving attendees more confidence, communication tactics and the tools to socialise.
Barry Wickens teaches on the courses and told Andover & Villages, “In the last two months we have raised £120 from a private cryptic dinner, and £110 from a private skittles match, so we’re trying to raise £400 in that way. Andover’s Waitrose will be giving us £400 shortly from their green token scheme.” Barry went on to say, “We are trying really hard to get the £6000 it costs to run three lip reading classes in an academic year. Simplyhealth has awarded us £1500 this week, and Hampshire County Council have awarded us £1000. On we go with fingers crossed!”
The Carnival Royals attended to officially open the cake sale and looked wonderful in their majestic outfits.
