Walking into Andover Market today, visitors were hit by the most wonderful aroma that was totally enveloping the High Street.

A new stall had opened that day, the first day of trading for cousins, Tania and Rahib, as Chit Chaat Chai, an authentic Indian street food experience.

Tania said, “London has a vibrant and full street food experience and we wanted to bring some of that to Andover. My cousin and I were brought up in Andover & Ludgershall and worked in our family Indian restaurants, but this food is different; it’s authentic, real and exciting.”

Tania and Rahib made AaV a Khati Sheesh Wrap that is made up with spicy lamb, onions and spices, which is cooked freshly on the stall. This is where the aromas filling the entire market are coming from. Once cooked, the vibrant food is put into a wrap along with cucumber, tomatoes and a homemade mango and mint sauce. This is all wrapped in front of you, and you can eat it there and then.

As I started to eat the wrap, the stall had a continual flow of people ordering food. The team worked busily to keep the orders flowing and the aromas kept on permeating.

The wrap was lovely and warm, wrapped in foil and sealed with a branded sticker. The meat was tender and spicy, while the onions still had bite and the heat came through, only to meet with the cooling tones of mango and mint. The Khati Sheesh Wrap truly is a taste sensation.

Hot on the heels of the wrap came the Samosa Chaat that we had with a combination of the Aloo Chaat. Beautifully presented in a branded pot and served with a wooden fork, this was yummy. The samosa was warm and bursting with a not too spicy filling. The chick peas, potatoes and pomegranate seeds were embraced with a cool yoghurt. Delicious.

All dishes are priced from £1 to £3, not bank breaking and the newest and most exciting addition to Andover’s Saturday Market. If you want your mouth to love you forever, make sure you get down there to have a taste!

Well done to the whole Chit Chaat Chai team; we are already looking forward to the next time, Lady Does Lunch have given Chit Chaat Chai a GOLD award!
