Andover to hold their own Christmas Day 1914 tribute football matchIn celebration of the football match that took place in No Mans Land between the British and the German troops on Christmas day 1914, Andover Town Council is pleased to announce two fun football matches at Vigo Road Recreation Ground. The first, on Christmas Day, is open to everyone.

The second, on Saturday 27 December 2014 is open to youths.

Both matches will kick off at 10:30 am and players and spectators are welcome from 10:00 am.

As a special recognition of this historic event, the Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Jan Lovell has agreed to sign a proclamation which temporarily renames the recreation ground, No Mans Land between 10:30am and 12 noon on 25th December.

Prior to the kick-off, everyone is invited to sign the carol Silent Night with one verse in German, The Mayor will then read a poem.

So come and join us on No Mans Land for a truly historic event – one absolutely not to miss.
