With Christmas done and dusted and final GCSE exams only a few months away, now is the time for those Year 11 students still mulling over what to do this year to make some college decisions. Andover College is having the first of its 2015 Open Evenings on Thursday 5 February 2015, 6.00pm to 8.30pm so it’s the ideal time to start thinking about the future.
Principal Tim Jackson comments: “We can assure prospect students and their parents that the teaching and learning at Andover has been commended by Ofsted with the Creative and Performing Arts department, which covers all courses in art, design, performing arts, music and music technology, rated as ‘Outstanding,’ and all other areas recognised for their high standards (rated good). Ofsted also noted that the support students receive here at Andover focuses on their general happiness and well-being – very important factors for academic achievement and success.”
Whether an academic high-flier or a student with a preference for a more vocational focused course, Andover College could be the place for you. Irrespective of the route that’s right, all learners are assured of talented and experienced staff and a very strong focus on personal development and support which genuinely prepares students for life after college.
The dedicated Sixth Form building offers more than 40 AS and A Levels. The High Achievers programme stretches and stimulates the most able of students and overall the results are outstanding, with a 99.3% A*-E pass rate at A Level in 2015. Every student who applied secured a place at the university of their choice last year.
Those looking for a more hands-on course will enjoy a tour around the vocational based training facilities, all of which are designed to provide an industry equivalent training environment. Hair and Beauty has a number of contemporary professional salons which wouldn’t look out of place on any high street; the Construction workshops are fully kitted out with tools and trade machinery and the Motor Vehicle department has a range of cars from city compact to luxury saloon. Performing Arts have a 100 seat theatre with industry standard light and sound facilities and Music students have use of recital rooms, recording studio, multi-media suite and a range of instruments. The College’s Sports department boasts their very own football stadium, offers free membership to Andover Leisure Centre gym and has comprehensive access to the centre’s facilities.
The College also offers a number of Apprenticeship courses for those who would like to earn while they learn. The Apprenticeship team will be on hand to discuss the many opportunities they currently have available and the benefits of an apprenticeship.
It’s time to make some decisions – go to www.andover.ac.uk and register for the Open Evening. Come and take a look around the campus, find out about different courses from both Lecturers and students and see whether Andover College is to be part of your future.
