Creator of Andover Pilates Helen Slater would most certainly agree. The business was set up back in 2012 by mum of two Helen who is fully qualified and HPC registered. Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute trainee Helen now runs classes alongside Jo and Judith who are also Chartered Physiotherapists and all APPI qualified for Pilates.

Originally developed by Joseph H Pilates the method is currently gaining momentum following a rise in popularity in recent years.

Pilates is based on a set of principles which exercise the whole body through a range of mat based exercises. Pilates combines the co-ordination of deep postural and stability muscles, breathing and arm & leg movements with postural correction, suppleness and flexibility. With regular practice, Pilates positively changes the body.

More recently Pilates has been adopted by athletes, fitness enthusiasts and within the health rehabilitation sector. Scientific research is beginning to provide evidence of its effectiveness on reducing pain, improving physical function, movement and wellbeing.

The Andover Pilates team provides physiotherapist-lead exercise sessions that cater to all ages and abilities. Clients can opt for individual sessions tailored to suit or one of the 19 classes on offer which range from Antenatal to Men’s only.
