A303 roadworks

The following list of roadworks and disruptions for A34, A303, M4, A404, M4 and M27 is corrected as of Monday, 19th of August, but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or other circumstances. All improvements are carried out with the aim to stop disruptions.

A303 Longparish, Hampshire: safety barrier

Work to ensure road user safety by replacing sections of the safety barrier near Longparish continues this week. The A303 eastbound carriageway from the A3093 Picket Twenty junction to Barton Stacey will be closed overnight, between 9.00pm and 6.00am, until Friday 30 August (Monday to Friday only). A signed diversion will be in place from the A3093 Picket Twenty junction, north on the A3093, north on the A343 to Wash Common, then south on the A34 to re-join the A303 at Bullington Cross.

In addition, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction will be in place on the A303 eastbound carriageway from Monday 12 August for five weeks.

A34 Wendlebury to Oxford, Oxfordshire: road markings

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings along the A34 continues this week. The A34 southbound carriageway from the M40 (junction 9) to the A44 Peartree Interchange will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 12 August for 4 nights.

A signed diversion will be in place via A44, A40 and M40 for motorway permitted vehicles, and via the A44, Kirtlington, A4095 and Vendee Drive for vehicles which are restricted from using the motorway.

M3 junction 5 Hook, Hampshire: drainage

Work to ensure road user safety by carrying out surveys of the drainage system at junction 5 takes place this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 August for 4 nights. A signed diversion will be in place via junction 6 and return.

M4 junctions 8/9 at Maidenhead to 12 at Theale, Berkshire: upgrade to smart motorway

Work to improve journeys by converting the M4 into a smart motorway between Junctions 3 at Hayes to Junction 12 at Theale continues this week. 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction are in place for sections of this stretch of the M4. Carriageway and slip road closures are planned as follows, all fully closed overnight between approximately 10pm and 5am (traffic management will usually be rolled out from 9pm and taken off by 6am).

Please be advised of three upcoming full weekend closures in both directions of the M4 this Autumn. More details will be sent out in due course:

  • 27-30 September 2019 – between junctions 5 to 6
  • 15-18 November 2019 – between junctions 6 to 8/9
  • 29 November-2 December 2019 junctions 6 to 8/9

Full closures booked for the week commencing Monday 19th August are as follows:

  • The M4 westbound carriageway between junctions 10 (Wokingham) and 11 (Reading) and will be closed overnight on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th August. Clearly signed diversions will be in place utilising theA329M, A3290 & B3270.

There are also slip road closures booked as follows:

  • Junction 8/9 – the westbound entry slip will be closed overnight on 19th, 20th, 21st August.
  • Junction 8/9 – the eastbound entry slip will be closed overnight on 19th, 20th, 21st August.
  • Junction 8/9 – the eastbound exit slip will be closed overnight on 19th and 21st August.
  • Junction 12 – the eastbound entry slip will be closed overnight on 20th and 21st August.

M4 junctions 14 to 15 Woodlands St Mary, West Berkshire: bridge repairs

Work to ensure road user safety by undertaking concrete repairs a bridge which carries the M4 over a local road near Woodlands St Mary continues this week. The B4001 beneath the bridge will be fully closed to road users and pedestrians until late-September. A signed diversion will be in place via Ermin Street and Ramsbury Road.

M27 junctions 3 to 4 Southampton, Hampshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to maintain journeys and ensure road user safety by replacing the Romsey Road bridge near junction 3 continues this week. A 50mph speed restriction is in place on the M27 east and westbound carriageways beneath the bridge until winter 2019.

M27 junctions 4 Southampton to 11 Fareham, Hampshire: smart motorway

Work to improve journeys by converting the M27 into a smart motorway continues this week. 24-hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction will be in place until 2021.

M27 junction 9 Whiteley, Hampshire: drainage

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage system along the slip road at junction 9 takes place this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 August for 3 nights. A signed diversion will be in place via junction 8 and return.

A3 Guildford, Surrey: slip road widening

Work to improve safety widening the southbound slip road at the Stoke Interchange continues this week.  Narrow lanes are in place on the southbound exit slip road at the Stoke Interchange 24 hours a day until Tuesday 20 August. The A3 southbound will be closed from the Stoke Interchange to the University Interchange overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 20 August. A signed diversion will be in place via Guildford.

In addition, the A3 northbound carriageway will be closed from Compton to the Stoke Interchange overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 19 August to install narrow lanes for the University Interchange. A signed diversion will be in place via the B3000, A31 Hogs Back and Guildford.

Narrow lanes are in place on the A3 northbound carriageway and University exit slip road 24 hours a day from Tuesday 20 August until March 2020.

A31 Cadnam to Ringwood, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to resurface a section of the A31 westbound carriageway near Picket Post finishes week. The road will be closed from junction 2 of the M27 to Poulner Hill at Ringwood overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Wednesday 21 August for 2 nights. A signed diversion will be in place via the A36 to Salisbury then the A338 to Ringwood.

A34/M4 junction 13 Chieveley roundabout, West Berkshire: drainage

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage system at the Chieveley roundabout takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the roundabout and slip roads overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 22 August.

A34 Kidlington, Oxfordshire: vegetation and road markings

Work to improve journeys by managing vegetation and renewing road markings at the Kidlington junction finishes this week. The A34 southbound exit slip road at the Kidlington junction, and the northbound link from the Bicester Road roundabout to the bottom of the southbound slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Tuesday 20 August.

  • Northbound Link – for those wanting to travel along the northbound link from the Bicester Roundabout towards Islip village, traffic will be diverted north onto the A34 to the Islip junction then south along Bletchingdon Road
  • Southbound Exit Slip-road (traffic for Kidlington) – traffic will be diverted to continue south on the A34 to the A44 Peartree Interchange, then along the A4260 towards Kidlington
  • Southbound Exit Slip-road (traffic for Islip) – traffic will be diverted to continue south on the A34 to the A44 Peartree Interchange, circumnavigate the roundabout to join the A34 northbound, continue north to the Islip junction, then south on Bletchingdon Road to Islip
