Find the latest traffic disruptions for A303, A34 and M3 here

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 21 June for A303, A34, A31, A27, M3 and M7 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A34 Bullington Cross to Winchester, Hampshire: road markings

Work to improve road user’s journeys by renewing the road markings along the A34 continues this week.  The A34 southbound carriageway from the A303 (Bullington Cross) to Kings Worthy will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 25 June for 4 nights. A signed diversion will be in place via the A303 and A33.

A34 Whitchurch, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A34 near Whitchurch takes place this week. The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from the A303 (Bullington Cross) to Litchfield overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 27 June for 2 nights. A signed diversion will be in place via the A303, Basingstoke and the A339.

A34 Beacon Hill to Tot Hill, Hampshire: drainage and street lighting

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the street lighting and drainage system along the A34 near Highclere takes place this week. A lane closure will be in place on the northbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 24 June for 5 nights.

In addition, the southbound exit and entry slip roads at the Tot Hill junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 25 June. Signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A303 Barton Stacey to Longparish, Hampshire: drainage

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage system along the A303 near Longparish takes place this week. A lane closure will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 26 June for 3 nights.

A303 Weyhill, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A303 westbound carriageway takes place this week. The A303 westbound carriageway from A343 Hundred Acre junction to the A338 Parkhouse Cross junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 24 June. A signed diversion will be in place via Weyhill, Ludgershall and Tidworth.

A308(M) Maidenhead, Berkshire: safety barrier

Work to ensure road user safety by replacing the safety barrier along the central reservation of the A308(M) continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place on both carriageways until Wednesday 3 July.

The A308(M) southbound will be closed overnight, between 9.00pm and 6.00am, until Wednesday 3 July (Monday to Friday only). A signed diversion will be in place via the A308, A4 and A404(M).

M3 junction 4a Frimley, Hampshire: drainage
Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage system near the junction finishes this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads at junction 4a will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Tuesday 25 June. Signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

M3 junctions 8 Dummer to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: safety barrier replacement
Work to ensure road user safety by replacing sections of the safety barrier along the M3 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the north and southbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Wednesday 3 July (Monday to Friday only).

M3 junction 13 Eastleigh, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the northbound entry slip road at junction 13 takes place this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads at junction 13, the southbound exit slip road at junction 13 and Leigh Road westbound from the junction with Passfield Avenue (Holiday inn) and Belmont Road will all be closed overnight (between 9pm and 6am) on Monday 24 June.

Lane 1 of Leigh Road eastbound will remain open to allow access to Oakmount Road, Manor Road, The Gateway (Premier Inn/Table Table), Villeneuve St Georges Way, Passfield Avenue and Woodside Avenue.  The footpath on the southern side of Leigh Road will be closed from Belmont Road to junction with The Gateway (Premier Inn/Table Table). The following diversions will be in place:

Traffic wishing to exit at junction 13 northbound – will be diverted north to junction 12, south down Winchester Road, then Bournemouth Road to access Leigh Road.

Traffic wishing to exit at junction 13 southbound – will be diverted south to the Chilworth roundabout, then north on Winchester Road and Bournemouth Road to access Leigh Road.

Traffic wishing to access the M3 northbound at junction 13 – will be diverted via Woodside Avenue and A335 Allbrook Way to access the M3 at junction 12.

Traffic wishing to travel westbound along Leigh Road from Passfield Avenue – will be diverted via Woodside Avenue and A335 Allbrook Way towards junction 12, the south along Winchester Road and Bournemouth Road.

M4 junctions 7 at Slough West to 10 at Wokingham, Berkshire: upgrade to smart motorway

Work to improve journeys by converting the M4 into a smart motorway between Junctions 3 at Hayes to Junction 12 at Theale continues this week. 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction are in place for sections of this stretch of the M4.

Carriageway and slip road closures are planned as follows, all fully closed overnight between approximately 10pm and 5am (traffic management will usually be rolled out from 9pm and taken off by 6am).

The M4 westbound carriageway between junctions 8/9 (Maidenhead) and 10 (Wokingham) will be closed overnight from Monday 24 June for 3 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place utilising the A404M, the A4, A3290 and the A329M. A contingency booking is in place on Thursday 27th June.

There are also several slip road closures booked as follows:

  • Junction 7 – the westbound exit slip will be closed overnight from Monday 24 June for 3 nights
  • Junction 7 – the eastbound exit slip will be closed overnight on 27 and 30 June

In the event of poor weather conditions or other issues out of our control, planned work may be postponed at short notice. Contingency bookings are also in place, but these are only used if previously planned work is delayed. If work completes on an earlier day the motorway may not close, or if work completes ahead of schedule the motorway may reopen early. Signage will be in place on the network to notify of closures and diversions.

M4 junction 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: roundabout resurfacing

Work to improve journeys and road users safety reconstructing the surface of the roundabout at junction 13 continues this week. The roundabout and approach roads from the A34 and M4 will be closed from 10pm on Friday 28 June through to 6am on Monday 1 July.

Various signed diversions will be in place primarily using the A4 between junctions 12 and 14 via Newbury. A secondary diversion will be in place from Newbury and Hermitage for local traffic at Chieveley and for Newbury Showground.

M4 junctions 14 to 15 Woodlands St Mary, West Berkshire: bridge repairs

Work to ensure road user safety by undertaking concrete repairs a bridge which carries the M4 over a local road near Woodlands St Mary continues this week. The B4001 beneath the bridge will be fully closed to road users and pedestrians until mid-August. A signed diversion will be in place via Ermin Street and Ramsbury Road.

M27 junctions 3 to 4 Southampton, Hampshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to maintain journeys and ensure road user safety by replacing the Romsey Road bridge near junction 3 continues this week. A 50mph speed restriction is in place on the M27 east and westbound carriageways beneath the bridge until winter 2019.

The M27 east and westbound carriageways will be closed between junctions 3 and 5 from 10pm on Friday 28 June through to 5am on Sunday 30 June. The A3057 Romsey Road will remain open to vehicles and pedestrian traffic.

Various signed diversions will be in place via Southampton, Chilworth, North Baddeley and Romsey.

M27 junctions 4 Southampton to 11 Fareham, Hampshire: smart motorway

Work to improve journeys by converting the M27 into a smart motorway continues this week. 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction will be in place until 2021.

A3 Guildford, Surrey: slip road widening

Work to improve safety widening the southbound slip road at the Stoke Interchange continues this week.  Narrow lanes are in place on the southbound exit slip road at the Stoke Interchange 24 hours a day until August.

A31 Picket Post, Hampshire: drainage

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage system along the A31 at the Picket Post junction takes place this week. The eastbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 28 June. Signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A31 Ringwood, Hampshire: drainage

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage system along the A31 takes place this week. The westbound exit slip road at Poulner Hill will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 24 June for 2 nights. A signed diversion will be in place via the Ringwood Interchange.

The eastbound exit and entry slip roads at Poulner Hill will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 26 June for 2 nights. Signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A31 Canford Bottom (Wimborne), Dorset: electrical maintenance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out maintenance to the electrical cabinet at the junction takes place this week. The centre of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 24 June for 2 nights. The junction will revert back to a standard roundabout during the works.

A27 Farlington (Portsmouth), Hampshire: street lighting

Work to improve journeys by maintaining the street lighting at the Farlington junction takes place this week. The westbound exit and entry slip roads at the A2030 Eastern Road junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 24 June.

In addition, the eastbound exit and entry slip roads at the A2030 Eastern Road junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 25 June.

Signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.
